About Us

Finest artisan bakery

Bavarian Bakehouse is a family business and we work to retain that culture as we have grown and bring more people into our team. Our bakers, have in excess of 100 years’ experience between them and a commitment to our ethos of being the finest artisan bakery, producing quality breads and cakes at reasonable prices using traditional time honoured methods.

Our bakers are supported by drivers and a bakery support team who take our culture to our customers by building strong relationships and striving to provide an equally high level of customer service and support.

Creative bespoke service to chefs

We are unique in offering a creative bespoke service to chefs and our customers are people who enjoy hand crafted but consistent quality pastries and cakes. Our niche artisan product range is large, which is a testament to the longevity of our business and the skills and experience of our small team of bakers who produce the slowly fermented breads along with cakes and pastries 6 days a week.

Niche bakery

We are a niche bakery that caters for every taste and the majority of our European style breads, as they use our sourdough starter cultures are “clean” and Vegan. To compliment that we do a range of Vegan cakes and Viennoiserie.

Traditional German baking techniques

The bakery business takes commitment and our bakers work through the night and we deliver to pubs, restaurants, hotels, cafes, shops and deli’s at the crack of dawn the following morning. As that days bread is being delivered we then start the following days production; preparing croissants, pastries, bread and rolls from scratch by hand so they can be slowly proved and be baked that night

Our Journey

Grown through word of mouth and due to consistently high quality of the products

The Bavarian Bakehouse was started in 1984 by the Scottish/German family the Wichmann’s, the business grew through word of mouth and due to consistently high quality of the products among the regions’ discerning chefs and food business owners. In 2011 as the Wichmann’s retired, the McShane family took over the bakery and have worked hard to grow the Bavarian Bakehouse from the great foundations we inherited.

We are proud that we have grown from those strong foundations whilst still retaining the original bakers that moved with us in 2011, they have now notched up 20-30 years’ service with the bakery each!

In 2017 we moved to new larger premises in Cumbernauld to enable us to continue to grow.

Separate Gluten Free Bakery

In 2019 we built a Gluten Free bakery and have started to supply high quality Gluten free bread and cakes direct to our customers and hopefully a to a much wider UK wide market very soon.

In spring 2020 we have started offering our box selections direct to the public for delivery and click and collect. We hope this we can reach many more people with our amazing baked goods and in the not too distant future open an onsite shop serving the local community.


By hand, from scratch, every day – artisan and slowly fermented breads

At the Bavarian Bakehouse, we produce by hand from scratch every day a large range of artisan and slowly fermented breads and rolls using our wheat, rye and spelt sourdoughs cultures our products are fully vegetarian and the only breads not Vegan are our spelt and honey and brioche and we offer vegan versions of both.

Fabulous German portions

Over the years we have complimented our breads with bagels, croissants, scones doughnuts and traditional cakes in fabulous German portions! Our offering is completed by our mini high tea cakes and larger cakes section which includes loaf cakes, tray bakes, multi portioned round cakes, occasion cakes and not forgetting our unique and delicious range of traditional German gateaux and logs.

Wholesale Product List

During the current crisis, we are offering a click and collect or delivery service three days a week. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

You can collect from our Bakery in Cumbernauld on these days between 10am and 12pm. We will allocated you a 10 minute slot to minimise contact.

Alternatively we can offer you a delivery service for a small charge of £2.50

To enable us to provide this service our current offering needs to be limited but we hope if this is popular and a success as it is something we would love to continue, expanding the range on offer to incorporate more of our handmade range and celebration cakes

Online Shop

We currently bake in our Gluten Free bakery once a week orders need to be received for our Gluten Free products on a Monday by 5pm and delivery or collection is on a Wednesday.

We are currently looking at expanding our offering to include Gluten Free Cakes and Birthday Cakes.
