We’ve compiled answers to your most frequent queries. If you don’t find your question here, please reach out. We’re here to help!
Are your breads suitable for vegans and vegetarians?
Most of our breads are suitable for vegan and vegetarian diets. Apart from our honey and spelt breads, milk loaves, egg loaves, brioche range and a large selection of our cakes.
However, we offer vegan alternatives for a large amount of our products.
Please note that we do not sell our vegan products as “Free From”. We segregate animal products onsite and have policies and procedures in place to reduce cross contamination, but we are not a vegan only bakery.
Do you sell Gluten Free breads?
Yes, we do!
Our seeded loaf won the Scottish Bakers “Best Free From Bread in Scotland” award in 2023!
We have a small, dedicated gluten free bakery onsite which bakes all of our gluten free products. We currently run a bake every second week (dates available on social media). The standard cut off time is slightly earlier for GF as we have to collect all the orders for a single bake.
The gluten free products are lab tested regularly and the bakery itself is swabbed regularly to ensure that the site remains free of gluten.
Our Gluten Free range is certified “free from”.
What is Sourdough bread and how does it differ from normal bread?
Sourdough breads traditionally use a live starter instead of baker’s yeast. Our starter is almost 40 years old and contains wild yeasts which give our breads a distinct flavour.
All of our breads contain sourdough, although the quantity various product to product. Our 100% 3-day Sourdough Pagnotta uses only Sourdough to slow prove (as the name implies) and has a darker colour and distinct tangy taste. Our Italian is a mixture of Sourdough and traditional baker’s yeast. This loaf is white and has a lighter flavour and texture.
The phone number you provide goes to voicemail!
Our office staff answer phones between 8am and 12pm Mon-Sat. After 12pm, the phones automatically go to voicemail for our wholesale customers to start leaving orders.
So please leave us a voicemail with contact info. Staff monitor the calls until the office closes at 3pm (Mon-Fri).
We will try to get back to you on the day, or the following day.
How do I keep up to date with your bakery?
We have an active social media presence.
Find us at:
@bavarianbrot on Twitter or search for @BavarianBakehouse on Facebook or Instagram!
Do you do speciality cakes?
In short, yes.
If you want a special birthday cake organised, or a cake for an event, please contact us directly and we can discuss options with you.
Again, we can only deliver these items in our normal delivery areas (Central belt) as we do not freeze them, and we do not use couriers for these items.
Alternatively, if you would prefer to collect them, please let us know when we are discussing your order.
You have too many delicious looking items on your website! I can’t make up my mind!
We know, and we can sympathise.
If you have any questions about a specific product on the website, or one that you don’t see, please feel free to contact us using the contact us page; email info@bavarianbakehouse.co.uk or send us a DM on social media.
Do you have a shop that I can come to and buy from?
Unfortunately, we do not currently have a shop that you can come to and browse our products.
We make to order, for several reasons, and do not hold any stock onsite. So, we are unable to help anyone that comes to the premises.
Can I alter my order/delivery date at short notice?
If you have any issues with the order that you placed, please call us on 01236 897654 as soon as possible.
We cannot guarantee that we will be able to move/alter orders, however we will do our best!
Where do you deliver to?
We deliver across the Central belt of Scotland.
Shipping is calculated on our website once you have entered your postcode.
If you are further afield, please contact us directly and we can discuss this with you. We do send some items by courier to other parts of the UK, but this incurs a larger surcharge as the courier service is more expensive. The items that ship well is also very limited.
Please note that we try to use DHL 24hr door to door service. We do our best to get the products to you, however, as we use a third-party courier, we cannot 100% guarantee this. Sometimes, unfortunately, delivery issues are beyond our control.
How do I order from you?
You can order our products from our website, or through some of our wholesale customers.
For our website, just browse the selection on offer, add to your cart and proceed through the checkout.
Please note that orders below a minimum order will default to “collection.” If you would like delivery, please select it, but be aware that there is a surcharge for this service.
Our delivery/collection days are Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday each week (apart from Gluten Free). Collection slots are between 12pm-1pm.
If you would prefer to buy bread directly from one of our wholesale customers, please contact us and let us know the area you are in, so we can advise on where to go!
How do I store your products?
We understand that 3 days is a short shelf life for many people!
We make to order, however many of our customers have told us that our breads freeze exceptionally well!
If you would rather not freeze, please keep the bread in a cool, dry place. Do not refrigerate them as this can increase the speed at which they go past their best.
How long do your loaves last?
We always state that our products have a 3-day shelf life, dependant on the storage environment.
This is due to the lack of preservatives in our products, unlike commercially made products.
What allergens do you hold on site?
We have a number of allergens onsite: Gluten (from wheat, rye, barley, spelt), sesame seeds, almonds, walnuts, pistachios, hazelnuts, eggs, milk, sulphites.
We also warn customers that there may be traces of other tree nuts in our products and peanuts as the factories that supply our nuts also process other types.
If you have any concerns, please contact us.
