f there is one trend in Glasgow that’s exploded recently, it’s bakeries with brilliant options popping up around the city.
And when it comes to bakeries, you can expect, brownies, croissants, tarts, buns and of course, queues, with artisan spots being some of the most popular places to go at the weekend.
Whether it’s coffee shops offering their own in-house creations or artisan bakeries creating a selection of baked delights that look as good as they taste, you’ll be more than happy with what you find when it comes to cake makers in this city.

Bavarian Bakehouse, Hyndland Street

Bavarian Bakehouse, one of the city’s oldest bakeries, recently opened its new venue is on Hyndland Street, just a few doors away from the original Das Brot shop that was a staple for locals in the 90s and early 2000s, known especially for its Challah bread.
Started in 1984 by a Scottish/German family, the McShane family took over in 2011 before moving the business to premises in Cumbernauld, in 2017. The new shop is already popular thanks its well-loved staples and the fact it acts as a testing ground for new products. It also serves coffee sourced from Thomsons’ Coffee, Glasgow’s oldest roaster, perfect for pairing with any backed goods.
The bakery, loved by stars like Noel Gallagher and the Foo Fighters, recently celebrated its 40th birthday.
